We work towards promoting, conserving and creating awareness regarding environmental conservation
Background
In 2016, ATEI germinated from a transformative encounter in Bwindi, western Uganda. A travel journalist connected with two impassioned women deeply troubled by Batwa exploitation, vowing to make a difference. ATEI, born from this commitment, confronts injustices in Karamoja and beyond. Driven by a mission to empower marginalized communities, especially women and girls in tourism hotspots, ATEI aspires to shape them into sustainability, justice, and equality ambassadors. Through initiatives like community empowerment, Pet a Tree, wildlife concerts, Ekkula capacity building, and Tourism awards, ATEI envisions a future where tourism and environmental preservation seamlessly intertwine with empowered and thriving communities.

The Objective
ATEI ambitiously seeks to combat exploitation in tourism hotspots, specifically targeting diverse ethnic groups like the Batwa and Ik in Karamoja, along with broader local communities. Our mission goes beyond empowerment; it's a commitment to ending unjust treatment of ethnic groups and actively involving women. Through groundbreaking initiatives like community empowerment, Pet a Tree, wildlife concerts, Ekkula capacity building, and Tourism awards, ATEI aims to dismantle exploitative practices and shape these communities into dynamic ambassadors of sustainable tourism, justice, and anti-corruption. By championing wildlife conservation and fostering female involvement, we envision a future where tourism and environmental preservation flourish in harmony, led by empowered and thriving communities.
